Short bio

Gláucia Murta leads the Quantum Foundations and Cryptography research group at the Atominstitut, TU Wien, exploring how fundamental quantum phenomena can be harnessed for secure and efficient quantum communication. Her research focuses on Bell nonlocality, multipartite correlations, and high-dimensional systems to develop cryptographic protocols that are robust and enable new quantum functionalities.

Originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, she obtained her Bachelor, Master, and PhD in Physics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where her doctoral research focused on fundamental aspects of quantum nonlocality. During her PhD, she spent a year as a visiting student at the Quantum Information Center in Gdańsk (KCIK), Poland. From 2016 to 2019, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at QuTech–TU Delft in the Netherlands, contributing to efforts toward the quantum internet. From 2019 to 2024, she was a Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence Matter and Light for Quantum Computing (ML4Q) at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf. She joined TU Wien as an Assistant Professor in June 2024.

Beyond research, she is passionate about science communication, exemplified by the Portuguese-language podcast “O Q Quântico”, and is committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative academic environment.
