Who produces scientific knowledge and why it matters?
Date: October 21, 12:00–13:30 Location: SR 3/37, Victor-Franz-Hess-Haus, (Ion Physics, 3rd floor, the "glass box") | Online participation is also possible. Target audience: Researchers Who participates in science—and does it matter for the knowledge science produces? In her talk, Daria Jadreškić will explore the connections between gender representation, scientific knowledge production, technological innovation, and the social contexts in which science takes place, with a particular focus on physics. Drawing on research from Science and Technology Studies and philosophy of science, the talk invites us to think about gender and diversity not only in terms of who does science, but also in relation to how scientific knowledge is produced. Feel free to bring your own lunch and enjoy it during the talk. Registration is kindly requested: barbara.denicolo@uibk.ac.at For those joining online, the link will be sent to registered participants shortly before the event. *** Daria Jadreškić is a philosopher of science and a science and technology studies (STS) scholar. She earned her PhD in philosophy of science from the University of Hannover in 2020. She then worked as a postdoctoral researcher in social studies of science at the University of Klagenfurt as part of an interdisciplinary DFG-FWF research group “Epistemology of the LHC” and a senior scientist at the Digital Age Research Center at the University of Klagenfurt. Since November 2025, she is a university assistant at the Center Interdisciplinary Gender Studies Innsbruck and, together with Gundula Ludwig, leads the project “Leaky pipeline and career trajectories of women in STEM disciplines: Identifying gender patterns.” Her main areas of research are social epistemology, philosophy of technology, philosophy of medicine, scientific collaboration, and gender and STEM. The event is organized by Dr. Barbara Denicolò (she/her/hers), Gender and Diversity Officer, Quantum Science Austria |
