Helene Hainzer (she/her) was born in 1991 in Innsbruck, Austria, and since 2016 has been involved in experimental work in quantum information science. For her Master’s thesis she contributed to an experimental system for creating entanglement between trapped ions and photons that are sent over practical distances to build large-scale quantum networks. Her PhD work is set in the context of quantum simulation, where she developed a new ion-trap quantum simulator with the aim to carry out simulations beyond the capabilities of classical computers. Here, she also carried out experiments in the context of quantum sensing, where quantum correlations within a system of 100 ions are harnessed to improve phase-estimation tasks.
